Job with steps problem

Hi all,
I have Windows 2003 r2 Server x64, sql 2005 sp1 x64 with sql 2000 latest sp
on one machine.
In SQL2005 I have created 2 maintenance plans - one for 2005 and second for
2000
Also created 3rd job (first 2 were generated by maintenance plans) with the
following steps:
1. cmd to move filese from A to B
2. SQL SISP package \Maintenance Plans\2005
3. SQL SISP package \Maintenance Plans\2000
When I execute that job it goes to step one and move those file, it's ok.
But step 2 and 3 are not executed correctly, I mean they are executed
(Successful) but that maintenance plan is not executing. After all I'm
getting the successful result but no backup are mage
Tried to execute those maintenance plans one by one. 2000 - successful but
nothing happens, the same is for 2005
When I execute the job associated - all is ok.
How could I add defined JOB to the Job Steps, to make it all run?
Thank you in advance
Alex
I don't think it is a good idea to call job from another job's step.
I mean you have to be certain that it is really business requirements
Take a look at sp_start_job system stored procedure in the BOL

job schedule? Newbie

Windows 2000, SQL server 2000
Is there a way to schedule a SQL server job to only run on M-F. I see
where I can schedule a "daily" job, or weekly or monthly, but I need a
M-F job to run, skipping the weekends.
Any suggestions
Select weekly, have it run every one week, select Mon, Tues,
Wed, Thurs, Friday for the days.

Job notification status on sql server 8

I wanted to send notification to several users regarding the job status on sql server whether it was successful or failed. I am using windows 2003 server and our domain is operating on webmail which is not a microsft product. I am a newbie so if anyone could help me out on what procedures should I take to make this work.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

As long as your mail server is using smtp, you should only have to specify the proper smtp service and port name in the setup. What version of SQL2005 are you using? I'm using Standard Edition and SqlExpress Advanced Tools on subscriber's stations. We have a mail smtp server, and that's all I had to do.

Do you have database mail enabled and configured?

Check this link: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191442.aspx

and this one, which has a link to a demo tutorial on setting database mail up.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/events/sql2005/sql-01.mspx

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Job failure cannot easily be traced

sql server ver 8... Microsoft Windows 2000
A copy of a database is made using sp_attach sp_detach and the
transaction log backup scheduled for that hour fails ...makes sense !!
There has been subsequent failures at the same time at the application
log but not at the database view history.
No idea what is going on here .....
Your ideas will be more than appreciated

If you are detaching, copying and re-attaching the database, the source
database will be unavailable during that time. Possibly contributing to your
job failures.
A far better technique would involve running BACKUP and RESTORE, in that way
the source db does not have to be made unavailable.

Job execution logged as an error

I have a special necessity in which I need that the result of failed jobs in
SQL Server Agent be logged as errors in Windows Event Viewer.
Normally they are logged as Warnings.
We developed a solution that uses active scripting for writing the errors in
Event Viewer. However, the policy configured prevents the execution of active
scripting.
Is there any other way of writing the result of failed jobs as errors in
Event Viewer?
I was hoping that there was a configuration that could be done to change the
type of event written in Event Viewer.
ThanksMaybe something using a job step of raiserror with log as a
failure branch in the job might work for you.

I tried the command sugested but, in order to run it, the job has to be
configured as sysadmin and this is not allowed in my company.
Is there other way?

I order to run it, the user also has to be sysyadmin or db_owner of the
master database and there is a policy in my company that does not allow it.
So that does not solve my problem yet, but thanks.|||> I order to run it, the user also has to be sysyadmin or db_owner
Did you try it? Below executes just fine on my 2005 installation:
CREATE LOGIN x WITH PASSWORD = 'y'
CREATE USER x
GRANT EXECUTE ON xp_logevent TO x
EXECUTE AS LOGIN = 'X'
GO
EXEC xp_logevent 50001, 'My error', 'ERROR'

Jet OLDB Error on 1/2 of A/A Cluster

Evening Folk ...
Have an Active/Active cluster of SS2K (SP3) on Windows 2003 server.
I have an SP that runs great on one node of the cluster BUT FAILS on the
other node of the cluster.
So in all the DBs (over 50) on NodeA the SP runs and returns the result set.
On NodeB , in all the DBs (over 40), the EXACT SAME SP failes with the
following error:

J. KuschOdd that a Microsoft.Jet related error would be coming from a stored
procedure. I guess you have a remote query or are linking to a MS Access,
Excel, etc. file?
Anyhow, yes, I would suspect this failure is the result of MDAC not being
installed correctly on NodeB. However, this error seems to be generic and it
could be the result of an inproperly configured DNS, missing default
database, etc.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=280102
There is a tool available for download called the MDAC Component Checker
that will determine what version of MDAC is installed and helps diagnose any
installation issues. Also, there is a download for MDAC (currently the
latest version is 2.8). Both are available for download from this location:

jdbc-sql 2000 error

Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting to Sql Server 2000 via Java 2 (5.0).
I'm on Windows Server 2003 and trying to connect locally from the
server. I've downloaded the jar files (mssqlserver.jar,msutil.jar,
msbase.jar) containing the jdbc driver from microsoft and placed them in
the same directory as my java file, below is a snippet of my code to
test the connection:
public void openTest() throws Exception
{
Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" );
Connection m_Conn = DriverManager.getConnection
("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://local:1433", "", "");
}
I compile using the following command there are no errors:
javac -classpath ".;./mssqlserver.jar;./msbase.jar;./msutil.jar"
Test.java
At runtime i get the following error,
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
com.microsoft.jdbc.

at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)

Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance.
InderHi
It's been a while since I used the JDBC driver!
microsoft.public.sqlserver.jdbcdriver may be a better newsgroup to post to.
You may want to make sure the .jar files are on the classpath and you may
want to re-run the setup just in case there is some corruption.

>|||Hi John,
I've got that error fixed; you were right, it was a classpath
problem. Now i have another error,
[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.
when i run the following,
Connection m_Conn =
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://servername:1433;
DatabaseName=Northwind","","");
The problem is that my 'servername' is the same as my windows server
2003 domain and when i setup my sql server 2000 i set it to use the
windows authentication, so now i'm not sure what to put for the username
and password in the above string.
Many thanks again,
Inderjit

AFIK the JDBC driver does not support Windows Authentication as it is
not a type 4 driver. You may want to look at

JDBC performance on Windows Xp SP2

I wrote a conversion program to convert some dbf data to an sql server 2000.
When I run the program on a Windows 2000 SP4 everything works fine. When
I run the same program on a Windows XP SP2 the program is really slow.
Haven't tried the program on a xp without sp 2. Maybe SP is the problem.
Anyone had the same problem?
On a 2000 machine the program copies up to 100 records a second. The same
program running on a xp machine copies only one record a second!
I tried the latest ms jdbc driver as wel as the open source driver.
No difference, same problem.
It's a sql server 2000 Sp3.
I disabled the xp firewall, but same result. Still to slow.
Both machines (2000 and xp) have the same hardware: pentium IV 2.4 GHz with
512MB ram.
I'm using the sun java 1.5.0_01.
Any idea?
Thanks Davy
Davy,
Have you been able to narrow down at all what is slower? Is it reading
the data from dbf or inserting into SQL Server?

JDBC Driver issues on Windows 2003

I'm running an application the is running on Weblogic 8.1.4 and uses MS SQL
Server 2000 as the db. I used the MS SQL JDBC driver SP3 and everything works
fine on a Windows 2000 box.
Now when I installed the same app on a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server, I get
the following errors,
<Jun 22, 2005 5:20:21 PM MDT> <Warning> <JDBC> <BEA-001129> <Received

I tried adding sqljdbc.dll in the classpath, in the app startup script and
no use. Any ideas, pointers, help ? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi. In order to do XA calls, the driver requires that the sqljdbc.dll
be installed *at the DBMS*. It is accessed directly by the DBMS via
extended stored procedures which should be also installed in the DBMS.
Please see our documents on the MS SQLserver driver.
I hope this helps,

JDBC Driver issue.

Hi,
How can i connect MSSQL server using Microsoft JDBC Drivers in Windows NT Autentication Mode.
Your help is appritiated
Thanks in Advance
Thanks,
egtestI don't believe you can. At least I couldn't find it anywhere in the help files or Microsofts site. Keep in mind if you use windows auth you're now platform dependant.

JDBC Driver for Windows 2003 Server

I have a java application in Win2000 Server connecting to
MS SQL Server 2000 via the JDBC Driver Service Pack 2. I
upgraded my OS to Windows 2003 Server, but when i try to
connect to MS SQL Server via the same JDBC Driver, it
fails, i get error "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for
JDBC: Error establishing to socket".
What driver should i use to correct this? I dont see any
updated drivers available in microsoft.com.
thanks a lot!

Hi. It's not the driver. It's probably the DBMS not yet being configured
to listen in mixed-mode (listen for TCPIP connections). Got to setup and
check that.

Hi Luis,
Mixed mode authentication only matters when you are making your connection
to SQL Server. Once you're authenticated and connected, it no longer
applies. You can troubleshoot the blocking problem using the SQL Server
blocking script in conjunction with SQL Profiler.
271509 INF: How to Monitor SQL Server 2000 Blocking
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=271509
If you already know the SPID that is causing the blocking, you can simply
run "DBCC INPUTBUFFER(<spid>)" in Query Analyzer, where <spid> is your SPID
number. This will give you the SQL statement that is running at the time.
You can run "sp_lock" in Query Analyzer to see the specific locks that are
held by the blocking SPID. Once you identify which query is causing the
blocking, you can take steps to optimize the query (adding indexes,
recoding the query, etc). The faster the query executes, the less blocking
you will see. If the query is part of a transaction, you want to minimize
the size of your transactions to improve their speed and ultimately reduce
the blocking time.

Use netstat on the server to determine wether anyone is listening on the
SQL Server port.
You propably did not install SQL Server Service Pack 3.
On Windows 2003 Server TCP/IP is disabled for SQL Server without SP 3
due to security issues. Look at the eventlog, you will propably find a
message stating something in that direction.
Install SP 3, reboot and you should be fine.

you can get the Service pack at:

I only installed the sql2ksp3.exe file.
